Sea

angling. You can organise a two hour, half day or full day fishing
trip from a fishing boat at Looe and also from nearby Polperro,
Fowey and Polruan. Looe fishing trips are generally advertised
down at the East Looe Quay but if you would like to organise a
trip in advance, it would be worth calling :-

be caught from most beaches, particularly Cawsand, Whitsand Bay,
Seaton, Downderry and Plaidy.
Looe
is also the home of the Shark
Angling Club Of Great Britain
and
they will organise trips to fish for Blue and Porbeagle sharks.

Paragliding
Paragliding
is a hill-based, free flight, foot launched aviation sport similar
to hang gliding and should not be confused with parachuting or
parascending. Paragliders are controlled by pulling control
handles and by weight shift. The paragliders themselves are
lightweight and fit into a rucksack so there is no great load to
carry back up the hill when you are learning. When you are
experienced you can, of course, soar ridges and thermal to cloud
base in a similar way to hang gliding.
Paragliding
is on offer at Cambourne from Cornwall
Paragliding and
from Fly Chaps
in Redruth.
Parachuting
Parachute
training is available at Cornwall Parachute Club based at St
Merryn Airfield, telephone 01841540691.
Scuba
Diving

In
addition to the well-established local, national and international
sailing events, Looe has a new nearby facility for divers created
by the sinking of HMS Sylla (a Leander Class frigate)in Whitsand
Bay which provides an artificial reef and a lot of fun for
divers.
Full information concerning local
diving instruction and facilities can be obtained from Looe
Divers Ltd, Island Court, Marine Drive, Looe, Cornwall PL13

Sailing
and Watersports
Looe
is a centre for both national and international sailing events
organised Looe
Sailing Club
Since
the 1950's many world and national sailing events have been held
in Looe. However, since 1984, these events have really taken off
in a big way. To date over 30 championships have been held, the
biggest world events having up to 200 dinghies invading the town!
Local authorities and traders have, of course, been very
supportive. In the past 3 years the world Enterprise championships
and the nationals of the RYA Youths, Fireballs, Solos, Contenders,
ISOs, Scorpions and RS 200/400 and 600 have been held in Looe, the
latter 3 championships on 3 different courses with 3 separate race
teams and almost 200 dinghies. Visiting sailors appreciate the
relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the Club and the majority of
the classes have regularly returned. The very professional Race
Management Team has always worked on a "tell us what you want
and we'll provide it" basis both on and off the water, and
the excellent facilities in and around the town ensure that
families can also enjoy a good holiday off the water, with the
Club being one of the most sought after venues in the south of
England.
East and West Looe face each other
across the river whose name they bear. Two rivers which merge just
above the town create a perfect land-locked harbour. The entrance
to the harbour is easily distinguished by the banjo-shaped pier. A
drying harbour easily approachable at any state of the tide, Looe
is home to a fleet of fishing boats and leisure craft.
Moorings for visitors, marked yellow,
can be found along the quayside on the
port-hand side further upriver. It is not possible to anchor in
mid river due to the commercial shipping activities.
